Regenerative medicine is focused on developing and applying new treatments to heal tissues and organs and restore function lost due to aging, disease, damage or defects. The human body has the natural ability to heal itself in many ways.
Tissue regeneration includes delivering specific types of cells or cell products to injured tissues
Platelet-Rich Plasma is derived from your own blood. Platelets are part or your blood and when separated through a process called centrifuging they can be harvested and used for injuries.
A simple blood draw is done in office, the sample is centrifuged, the platelet-rich plasma is then harvested and injected into injury site using guided ultrasound.
Stem cells are the body's master cell. They are the cells from which all other cells with specialized functions are generated. Under the right conditions in the body or a laboratory, stem cells divide to form more cells called daughter cells. These daughter cells become either new stem cells or specialized cells (differentiation) with a more specific function, such as blood cells, brain cells, heart muscle cells or bone cells. No other cell in the body has the natural ability to generate new cell types. Stem cell injections use this process to help regenerate damaged tissues in the body.
Healing is a complex process of orchestrated reactions and interactions with the goal of restoring structure and physical properties to damaged tissues. The musculoskeletal system is composed of different types of connective tissues. When healthy, each has a unique structure, function, and remodeling process. When damaged, they demonstrate unique healing processes. However, similarities in the process exist. Understanding these properties of healing is critical in the development and application of regenerative therapeutics.
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy utilizes injections of a concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. PRP injections use the patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems, reduce inflammation, and improve pain.
Stem cell injections accelerate the healing and regeneration of injured or torn tendons, ligaments, muscles, joint or articular cartilage, and nerves.
Stem cells can accelerate the tissue regeneration through various mechanisms. To date, a variety of stem cells, including mesenchymal, embryonic, and induced pluripotent stem cells, have been reported to promote regeneration of damaged tissues
The principle for ultrasound guided injection is that we can very accurately guide the injection directly to the target tissue. Maximising patient benefit and minimising required dose. Research also shows the following benefits from ultrasound guided injections:
- Reduced incidents of injury
- Reduced overall side effects
- Better patient comfort
- Better patient satisfaction
- Significantly more accurate injection with all injection procedures
- Improved outcomes.
Centrifuging is the process by which blood or other bodily fluids are spun to separate them into different parts for clinical use or testing.
Most Centrifuge times for PRP injections range from 10-15 minutes up to 30-45 minutes.
The system we use only takes 90 seconds!
All patients are prescribed a post-injection and some times pre-injection therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation program.
All prescribed programs are patient and injury specific. Programs include both in office and at home therapeutic exercises as well as one on one therapy with a Board Certified Doctor and/or a certified therapy technician.
